Who is St. Dominic Savio?
St. Dominic Savio was born in Italy in 1842. He was one of the students
of St. John Bosco. Even though he was very young, Dominic loved Jesus
deeply and wanted to live a holy life.
At just seven years old, he received his First Holy Communion and made four
promises: to go to Confession often, to receive Holy Communion as often as
possible, to keep Sundays holy, and to be friends with Jesus and Mary. He
believed that even children could become saints if they loved God sincerely.
Dominic was cheerful, prayerful, and always ready to help others. He encouraged
his friends to live pure and good lives. He fell sick with a lung disease
when he was only fourteen years old. During his illness, he offered all his
pain to God and said, ‘What a beautiful thing it is to be with Jesus and
Mary forever!’ Dominic died peacefully on March 9, 1857, trusting in God’s
love.
St. John Bosco said, 'Dominic showed by his life that it is easy to be holy
when you do everything for the love of God.''
